SUNGUIDE, Florida's Intelligent Transportation System

Incident Management

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six, via the SunGuide® Transportation Management Center (TMC) provides the services that maintain our roadways free and clear of road blocking incidents to keep traffic moving at all times.

District Six supports the Incident Management Program, which works to reduce the negative effects that traffic events or crashes have on our surface transportation system. It promotes a multi-agency approach to incident response to reduce clearance duration times and restore highway capacity back to free flowing conditions. The goal is to reduce traffic congestion and reduce the chances of secondary crashes caused by a prolonged exposure to traffic incidents.

Operational staff at the SunGuide TMC work with partner agencies and emergency responders to manage incidents quickly and effectively. They monitor the roadways to detect traffic events and dispatch the appropriate resources, such as Road Ranger Service Patrols, to assist responding agencies with incident clearance efforts. Additionally, they work closely with responding agencies to establish and update procedures in an effort to continuously improve incident management processes.
