Motorists are Urged to Drive Safely along New Southbound I-95

Installation of the plastic poles along Interstate 95 is now complete. The poles will serve as a permanent barrier to separate two new southbound express lanes from four local lanes between Miami Gardens Drive / NW 186 Street and I-395 / State Road 836.

Motorists can enter the southbound express lanes south of Miami Gardens Drive, from the Golden Glades Interchange Park-and-Ride lot, from State Road 826, Florida’s Turnpike, State Road 7 and on southbound I-95 near NW 151st street. To exit the express lanes, motorists can take the Westbound State Road 112 Flyover or continue south on I-95 to the end of the plastic poles, one-half mile north of State Road 836.

Please follow these simple safety guidelines for using 95 Express.

  • Plan ahead. Use the local lanes if your trip calls for exiting I-95 north of State Road 836.

  • Do not try to drive through or over the plastic poles. It is unsafe and unlawful.

  • Do not stop on I-95 at any time. If you find that you have gotten into the express lanes by mistake, please follow the lanes to the end where you can safely exit the interstate and turn around.

  • If you have an incident or your vehicle becomes disabled while in the express lanes, pull over to the left shoulder. Remain in your vehicle with the doors locked, dial star-FHP (*347) on your cell phone, and wait for assistance. Do not wait outside of your vehicle.

The 95 Express Project is part of a cost-effective effort to reduce congestion, and encourage better use of the highway with less community impact. Electronic toll collection in the new southbound lanes will begin in mid January 2010. For more information please visit www.95express.com or call 1-877-95X-FDOT.
