FDOT District Six Participates in National Pooled Fund Study Meetings
On Thursday May 26, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six Office helped host a joint annual meeting of two of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) led pooled fund studies (PFS) in South Florida. The meeting marked the first time FHWA had two of their PFS groups, the High Occupancy Vehicle / Managed Use Lanes (HOV/MUL) and the Transportation Management Center (TMC) join together in this setting to advance their coordination efforts and discuss project initiatives related to both programs.
FDOT District Six was selected to participate in this joint meeting to discuss the recent deployment of its managed use lanes project, 95 Express, as well as the critical role the regional TMC has played in its daily operations.
As part of the three-day conference, the 40+ member group was given a series of informational presentations that discussed the 95 Express Project from initial inception, current daily operations and future plans for expansion. FDOT staff shared their experiences along each part of the project’s deployment process as well as statistical information and lessons learned. The presentations were complimented by a drive through the 95 Express Lanes facility on Interstate 95 as well as by a tour of the SunGuide® TMC.
FHWA’s Transportation Pooled Fund (TPF) Program allows federal, state, local agencies and other organizations to combine resources to support specific areas of transportation research studies. To learn more about the national program, log on to their website: www.pooledfund.org.
