District Six Produces RISC Video, Now Available On-Line
The FDOT District Six Traffic Incident Management (TIM) team recently produced a Rapid Incident Scene Clearance (RISC) video that is available on this site.
Responders from FDOT, Florida Highway Patrol, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and other private contractors recently took part in a live demonstration showcasing the steps required to clear large-scale crashes from our highways.
The five-minute video shows the step-by-step coordination between Transportation Management Center (TMC) staff and on-the-scene responders that is needed to identify, manage and clear these heavy-duty wrecks from the highway's travel lanes and restore them back to regular operating conditions. The video also shows the RISC Program's contract requirements and innovative performance measures that are working to clear these events quicker and more efficiently.
The RISC Program is a result of the on-going communication between the Department and its partner agencies. It was created by Florida's Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) in 2004 and has been expanded to five other districts since then. District Six launched the program in Miami–Dade County in 2009 and has helped reduce travel lane clearance times by 179% and total incident clearance times by 31% since implementation. District Six is scheduled to expand its RISC Program in December 2011, and will be the first to provide this service onto local roads, such as Krome Avenue, US 27 and MacArthur Causeway in Miami-Dade County.
