District Six Participates in International ITS Event, Wins National Award!
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Office recently took part in the prestigious World Congress on ITS Event held in Orlando, Florida.
The annual congress is the industry's most anticipated event and serves as the premier venue in where leaders from around the globe showcase their latest projects and future innovations. The FDOT District Six Office was selected to present on a variety of topics this year, including congestion pricing, ramp signaling, incident management, process improvement and public information. A total of seven district representatives served as speakers in an international panel of experts, sharing their southeast Florida project experiences with attendees from Europe, Asia-Pacific and South America!
In addition to the these speaking opportunities, FDOT was awarded with ITS America's most prestigious award for the second year in a row! ITS America honored District Six Public Information Office in the event's "Best of ITS Awards" under the category for Best Innovative Practices for the 95 Express Marketing and Outreach Campaign. These national awards are given to agencies who are helping promote the ITS Industry through innovative projects, best services and practices. During the same event, the District was also honored by the Intelligent Society of Florida with the Outstanding Achievement Award for its commitment to raise awareness about ITS Industry services and benefits through public information and education. The award specifically recognized the district's efforts in building a robust public information website that is keeping the community informed on the latest industry news and events as well as for its ongoing support of the state's first ramp signaling and 95 Express projects.
The district finalized the event by coordinating a bus tour of south Florida's Transportation Management Center (TMC). Approximately 50 international industry professionals visited the District Four and District Six TMCs and received information from Florida's Turnpike Enterprise and Miami-Dade Expressway Authority.
