District Six ITS Manager Wins Prestigous Award!
The FDOT District Six Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Office is proud to announce that Rory Santana was recently named ITS Champion of the Year by the statewide organization, ITS Florida.
The award, which according to the organization is given to individuals who make “significant contributions to advance the cause of ITS in Florida” and is “given only for rare and conspicuous service,” was presented in the Transpo 2010 summit event, held in Jacksonville, Florida on December 14.
Santana was selected among various industry leaders with this honor for his role in the completion of 95 Express Phase 1 in Miami-Dade County. The committee recognized him for pioneering such innovative traffic management concepts like dynamic pricing and ramp signaling in our state as well as for his careful execution of the project’s multi-faceted operational components like incident management and the bus rapid transit service. Santana, who oversaw the ITS Department for more than 20 year and currently serves as the District's ITS Manager, has worked diligently to integrate this project in the community and become a spokesperson for High-Occupancy Toll Projects nationwide.
Also at Transpo, District Six was selected to present on a variety of topics for their recent efforts in TMC Operations, 95 Express, Ramp Signaling and Public Information. The District also had the honor of winning the Grand Prize in the statewide calendar contest and made the cover of the 2011 ITS Florida calendar.
