District Six Installs New State-of-the-Art Detectors on I-95!
Traffic operators at the SunGuide Transportation Management Center are now able to manage traffic more efficiently thanks to 31 new vehicle detectors installed along southbound I-95.
The new state-of-the-art detectors were placed about every one-third of a mile on I-95 between US-1 and the 95 Express Lane’s entry points. They are helping to collect important traffic data, such as speeds, volume and occupancy on a per lane basis to assist with traffic management efforts on the highway. The detectors also contain built-in cameras that may be viewed by control room operators to further assist them when verifying traffic events and when confirming the accuracy of the traffic data.
FDOT is committed to optimizing its ITS Program operations as a way to improve the quality of traffic management services it provides. This effort is set to enhance existing program efforts and improve mobility and safety along I-95.
