Frequently Asked Questions
The SunGuide Road Ranger Service Patrol is a free service of the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). Road Rangers patrol I-95, I-395, I-75, I-595, Florida's Turnpike and the Miami-Dade Expressways (MDX). There is also a two-year Road Ranger Pilot Program on US 1 from SW 17th Avenue to SW 112th Street in Miami-Dade County.

SunGuide Road Rangers provide free and reliable roadside assistance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

A stranded motorists best friend, the Road Rangers clear disabled vehicles from the travel lanes, remove roadway debris and assist the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) during traffic incidents.  Road Rangers help as many as 9,000 Florida motorists like you a month.

Call *FHP (*347) on your cell phone if your vehicle breaks down or you see someone else in need of a Road Ranger.

SunGuide Road Rangers do more than just change flat tires or provide you with enough fuel to get you to the nearest gas station if you run out of gas.  In fact, here’s a snapshot of what they will do for you free of charge:
  • move or tow your car away from the travel lanes to the nearest and safest area

  • serve as eyes and ears for road conditions and incidents

  • can spend up to 15 minutes working on your vehicle to try to fix the problem

  • secure scene of an accident and set up a safe zone for emergency vehicles to tend to the incident

  • set up Maintenance of Traffic so commuters know which way to go to avoid incident

  • pick up road debris

  • patrol the Florida Keys' 18-mile stretch during hurricane evacuation to assist stranded motorists

  • call in incidents to SunGuide Transportation Management Center

  • trained to look out for suspicious vehicles

  • move vehicles involved in an accident off the road within 90 minutes if possible
