The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) continues to make South Florida’s most congested expressways and roadways a lot smarter with the addition of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS)devices.
SR 5 (US 1 Monroe County) ITS Deployment from Key West to Key Largo
This is a design-build project that will be constructed concurrently with I-195 and I-75 ITS deployments. Seven DMS and 41 cameras will be installed. Three out of the 41 cameras will be located along Card Sound Road in Miami-Dade County. The remaining 38 cameras will be located in Monroe County (2 on Card Sound Road and 36 on US 1). This project is now completed.
I-75 (SR 93) ITS Deployment from SR 826/Palmetto Expressway to Miami-Dade/Broward County Line
This is a design-build project that will be constructed concurrent with the I-195 and SR 5 (US 1 Monroe County) from Key West to Key Largo ITS Projects. Seven closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras, 3 DMS, fiber optic backbone, and 30 microwave vehicle detection stations will be deployed. Project limits are from SR 826 to Miami-Dade/Broward County Line. This project is now completed.
I-195 (Julia Tuttle Causeway/SR 112) ITS Deployment from I-95 to Alton Road
This is a design-build project that will be constructed concurrent with the SR 5 (US 1 Monroe County) from Key West to Key Largo and the I-75 ITS Deployments. Six CCTV cameras, 4 DMS, fiber optic backbone, and 22 microwave vehicle detection stations (MVDS) will be installed. Project limits are from NW 11 Ave to Alton Road. This project is now completed.
SR 5 (US 1) Corridor from SW 17 Ave to SW 112 Ave
Implementation of 4 DMS (arterial signs), 17 CCTV cameras, 6 mid-block microwave vehicle detection stations, and fiber optic cable between SW 17 and 112 Avenues in Miami-Dade County (a distance of 16 miles). This project is currently under construction.
I-395 ITS Deployment from NW 7 Ave East to Alton Road
This is a design-build project. Ten cameras, 1 DMS, 10 microwave vehicle detection system units, and fiber optic backbone will be installed. This project is scheduled to begin construction in 2008.
Palmetto ITS Deployment from NW 25 St to I-75
This is a design-build project that will be constructed concurrent with the I-395 ITS Deployment Project. Six cameras, 3 DMS, 38 microwave vehicle detection system units, and fiber optic backbone will be installed. This project is scheduled to begin construction in 2008.
